Every year the festival gathers opera professionals and Donizetti enthusiasts from all around the globe, and this year’s edition includes “Pietro il Grande, Kzar delle Russie” (Peter the Great, Czar of Russia).
Gaetano Donizetti’s “Pietro il Grande” premiered in Venice in 1819. Since then, it has almost never been staged. On the occasion of its 200th anniversary, a new production of this rare comic opera will premiere internationally at the Bergamo Social Theatre for the #donizetti200 project.
The mise-en-scène was designed by ONDADURTO TEATRO, who have a distinctively interdisciplinary approach to the creation of their shows, ranging from nouveau cirque elements to physical theatre, from dance to gesture… and this production is no exception! The company, led by Marco Paciotti and Lorenzo Pasquali, has created an unconventional and alluring rendition of this 1819 opera, which features a combination of different disciplines, lavish costumes designed by K.B. Project and stage machinery.
The Donizetti Theatre Foundation and ONDADURTO TEATRO would like to invite you to the Bergamo Social Theatre to celebrate one of Italy’s greatest composers on one of the following 2019 performance dates: 15 November, 23 November or 1 December.
